# Hello World
This is **Markdown**
<!-- plain html works in markdown too, like this comment -->
Markdown is a lightweight ‘Markup’ language for formatting plaintext, and viewing it in a web browser.
All the “notes” you read on this site are written in markdown
Language Features:
Very simple syntax, easy to learn
Easy conversion to pdf or html if needed
Often used for README’s (README.md)
Github.com uses its own variant of Markdown, called GFM
The overriding design goal for Markdown’s formatting syntax is to make it as readable as possible. The idea is that a Markdown-formatted document should be publishable as-is, as plain text, without looking like it’s been marked up with tags or formatting instructions.
